Unit the last breath: Part 2: The fight within
Part 2: The Fight Within
Days turned into weeks, and Ayushi became Ansh’s silent strength. She helped him through the grueling chemotherapy sessions, all while maintaining the facade of normalcy around their friends and family. At school, they still studied late into the night, their dreams of cracking the JEE clinging to their hearts like a shared heartbeat.
Ansh grew weaker, his once bright eyes now shadowed by pain, but never did he falter in front of Ayushi. He smiled through the agony, fueled by her presence and determination. On his toughest days, she would read to him, revise formulas together, or just lie beside him, holding his hand in the quiet darkness.
One evening, after a particularly harsh round of treatment, Ansh broke down.
“I don’t want to be a burden,” he whispered, his voice trembling. “What if I don’t make it, Ayushi?”
She cupped his face gently, her voice fierce yet trembling, “You’re not a burden. You’re my strength, Ansh. I won’t let this illness define us. We still have dreams to chase—together.”
That night, under a sky full of stars, they sat by the window of Ansh’s room, their fingers intertwined, notebooks scattered on the floor, a JEE practice test half-complete between them.
“I'll never give up on us,” she whispered.
And in that promise, the fight continued—with love, with hope, and with unyielding courage.
